Romania: Ponta takes off
19 December 2012
The prime minister-designate, Victor Ponta, today announced the nominations to his government. He also made public the agreement with his rival, President Traian Băsescu, intended to ensure their successful cohabitation.
The accord, concluded five months after the failed attempt of Ponta to oust the head of state, commits both parties to respect the independence of the judiciary, to guarantee the rule of law, and no longer to attack each other in public.
