Confronted with shortages of labour power in the workforce, Germany published on July 22 a list of professions in 18 sectors open to foreign workers.

Contrary to previous government policies, which privileged immigration of skilled workers, the new call concerns intermediary professions, including plumbers, train conductors, and caregivers.
