“No mosque here”. Amsterdam’s De Volkskrant has run as its front page headline the first sentence, delivered in English, of Geert Wilders’ 11 September speech in New York. The Dutch leader of the far right PVV, known for his anti Islamic opinions, addressed a crowd of several hundred people and expressed support for demonstrations against the proposed construction of a mosque near Ground Zero, site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The Dutch newspaper says that this year’s ninth anniversary was “drenched in political discord” and that Geert Wilders has played “a leading role in the protests against the Ground Zero mosque.”
