“Real IRA says it will target UK bankers,” headlines the Guardian. In an interview with the London daily, the dissident Irish republican group, which is opposed to the Northern Irish peace process, has warned of a future terror campaign against the City. In an attempt to tap into the intense hostility towards banks on both Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic, the Real IRA has accused the British financial world of “a crime spree that benefits a social elite at the expense of many millions of victims”. “It is the first time,” the London daily notes, “the Real IRA has engaged in such open anti-capitalist rhetoric or focused on the role of the banking system.”
