On February 19, the German constitutional court decided that a second partner in a same-sex civil union could adopt a child already adopted by the first partner. In their ruling the judges noted that the measure was necessary for the wellbeing of the children.
TAZ points out that the social democrats would like to obtain complete equality for same-sex couples, notably with regard to adoption.
A bill to this effect will be presented to the second chamber of parliament, the Bundesrat, which represents the German regions, ahead of general elections in September.
