‘EU Commission frets over deficit of billions’

An interim European Union budget of €11.2bn is required, EU Budget Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski warns. He has asked Member States and the EuroParliament to provide the funds for 2013.

The money is needed to pay down debts incurred in 2012 and will boost the EU budget to a record €144 bn for the year.An agreement between the Commission and the Parliament on the interim budget is required before the MEPs can vote on the 2014-2020 EU budget.
