Undermined by the confession of socialist former Budget Minister Jérôme Cahuzac, who has been charged with “money laundering the proceeds of tax fraud”, French President François Hollande and Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault will have to “find a solution to the major crisis that has struck the highest level of the state,” argues the daily.
The conservative opposition has accused the two leaders of “complicity” or “naivety” and many figures on both the right and the left are urging François Hollande to reshuffle his cabinet.
“The right scheduling window would also have to be found: should it be before or after the summer?” wonders the newspaper, which remarks that “not everyone in the ruling majority believes in the virtues of a reshuffle. [...] Battening down the hatches and not changing anything may be the best option. For now.”
