On April 29, the Northern Ireland Assembly opted to reject same-sex marriage legislation, which was voted down by the Protestant conservative Ulster Unionist Party with encouragement from religious leaders.
"Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK without marriage rights for gay couples," points out the daily.
Same-sex marriage was approved by England and Wales on February 5, 2013, and a bill to introduce the legislation is making progress in the Scottish Parliament.
