A total of 106 immigrants, including six pregnant women and six children, were rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) on July 25 after their dinghy was spotted 20 miles off the coast of the island, reports the Malta Independent.

Seven of the refugees, including three of the pregnant women and four men suffering various injuries such as broken bones and dehydration, were airlifted to the island and transferred to hospital. The rest of the group, who are thought to be Somali, were brought ashore by boat.

There has been an increase in recent weeks in the number of migrants arriving in Malta, a situation that has led to tensions with the EU and the European Court of Human Rights.
