Britain and the US are planning to carry out a series of cruise missile air strikes against Syrian government targets “within days” in retaliation for the regime’s apparent chemical gas attack against civilians on August 21, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Syrian President Bashar al Assad finally succumbed to international pressure and on Sunday agreed to allow United Nations inspectors access to the attack site in the Ghouta district outside Damascus, but the approval was rebuffed by the US as “too late”.
An editorial in the newspaper added that –
In the chaos of a disintegrating Syria, armed western intervention is an agonising choice. But, equally, the strategic risks of doing nothing are horribly clear.
