"The Minister of Citizen Protection, Nikos Dendias, demanded, [on September 23], an investigation of ties between the police and Golden Dawn," following the murder of a rapper by a supporter of the extreme right wing party, reports Greek daily Ta Nea.
The news comes in the wake of the resignation of the police Inspector General for Southern Greece and the Director General for Central Greece due to their links with Golden Dawn. Four lower rank officers have also been also suspended.
The paper adds that several police officers from Euboea, the county's second largest island, were suspended for not investigating reports that the local Golden Dawn office, which is adjacent to the police station, was used to stockpile weapons. "A fiasco within police ranks," the paper says.
