The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, and his opposite number from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Derviş Eroğlu attended an informal meeting in Nicosia on November 25. However, the two leaders were unable to reach agreement on a roadmap for the reunification of the island, which has been divided since the Turkish invasion of 1974, reports O Phileftheros.
According to the daily —
… the Turkish Cypriot side is insisting that both states retain their sovereignty and their inhabitants, and delegate only secondary competencies to a central state.

At the same time, adds the newspaper, Anastasiades “is demanding that a methodology and and objective for talks be immediately established,” while Eroglu affirms that they “should begin discussions and see how they develop.”
