In September, 27.4 per cent of the population, 1,376,463 people, were unemployed, according to the latest figures publiished on December 11. That means that 60 per cent of working age Greeks are without jobs, notes Eleftherotypia.
The daily points out that the rate of unemployment has exceeded 27 per cent for the sixth consecutive month, and adds that the figures “show the scale of the economic crisis and the problem posed by memorandum policies” — the austerity measures that aim to cut Greek debt.
Another consequence of the economic crisis, writes the newspaper, is the growing number defaulting on income tax —
… 500 000 people have declared that they will be unable to pay their income tax for 2013.
