"Shame": in the wake of the failure of the sixth attempt to mediate between the political parties with a view to forming a government, the front-page headline in De Morgen takes up the slogan of 23 January demonstration alongside a photo spread of the different political leaders and other "explorers", "scouts" and "mediators" who came and went to the royal palace on the 228th day of the political crisis. The most recent of these, Flemish socialist and “royal peacemaker” Johan Vande Lanotte, handed in his resignation on 26 January. The ball is once again in the king’s court, although, as De Morgen points out, "no one has any idea of how he can solve this puzzle." To overcome the "total deadlock", Albert II will have to embark on a fresh series of meetings with the party leaders, who are blaming each other for the stalemate.
