After seven days of silence, Jean-Claude Juncker has finally spoken on the “Luxembourg Leaks” tax evasion scheme, writes Le Soir. The European Commission president admitted he was “politically responsible of what happened at that time in Luxembourg”. At the same time, he indicated the Grand Duchy will not be a fiscal exception and that big companies will have to share some of the collective European effort.
The Belgian daily welcomes Juncker’s initiative, and says although the former Luxembourgish prime minister made some communication mistakes and kept silent for too long on the issue, he “immediately went back on track” and “bounced back yesterday”. Le Soir also specifies that —

we had a [Commission] president who seemed to be fleeing from the press and above all from his responsibilities – a suicide at the beginning of such a critical mandate for Europe. Now we have the president we expected: determined, clear-minded and acting by putting everyone in front of his own responsibilities.
