“Hand in hand with Germans,” headlines Gazeta Wyborcza on the 20th anniversary of the Treaty of Good Neighbourship and Friendly Co-operation - one of the milestones in Polish-German post-war relations. A long-term Polish-German co-operation plan is to be signed next Tuesday 21 June by PM Donald Tusk and Chancellor Angela Merkel at the joint-session of both governments to celebrate the anniversary. “We want to build a Polish-German partnership for Europe”, says a Polish diplomat quoted by the daily. Besides close co-operation within the EU, the plan foresees construction of fast railway links, gas pipelines, introduction of Polish studies at several German universities and closer scientific co-operation. “It is a document of great significance. Last year we signed a similar programme with France. There are no other examples of closer co-operation in Europe,” a German diplomat assures the Warsaw daily.
