Launched in 1877, De Groene Amsterdammer ("The Green Amsterdamer" - a reference to the original ink used to print the newspaper) is the Netherlands oldest current affairs weekly. With long-established roots on the political left, De Groene, as it is affectionately known, typically publishes extensive and to a certain degree provocative articles on politics, economics, Dutch and international cultural issues. Groene Amsterdammer journalists often spend extended periods working in the offices of magazines in developing countries, and publish long articles about their daily experience abroad.
