Of a traditional conservative tint, Jornal de Notícias is Portugal's second most widely read daily. Founded in 1888 in Porto, it is managed by Controlinveste, a powerful media group, and much of its content is given over to news in the north of the country. Switching to a tabloid format and a national edition in the 1980's, it went online in 1995.
