Founded in 1993 by former Komsomolskaya Pravda journalists, Novaya Gazeta ("The New Newspaper") rapidly gained a reputation in for its unbiased coverage of political scandals and other issues in Russian society. It was an independence that came at a high cost: four of its journalists, including Anna Politkovskaya, were assassinated between 2001 and 2009. Novaya Gazeta is published on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
