EU leaders set for showdown on fate of euro – The Guardian

Angela Merkel’s Christian-Democratic CDU was dealt a severe blow (-8.3% and only 67 seats) on the occasion of regional elections in North Rhine-Westphalia. The state parliament’s outgoing coalition between Social Democrats and Greens won an absolute majority, with 128 seats in the 237-seat assembly. At the same time, the Pirate Party made its first gains in the region, winning 20 seats, mainly from Die Linke which will no longer be represented in the parliament.

The MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas Company is preparing to abandon the European Commission supported Nabucco pipeline project, opting instead to participate in the competing South-East Europe Pipeline proposed by BP. Hungary is one of the countries on the route to be traversed by Nabucco, which is set to link the Caucasus to Vienna.
